Larisa Safaryan – Open CALL LA 2014 Best in Show Winner

Open CALL LA 2014 was the largest Open Call Exhibition in LAMAG history! 3,500 people attended the exhibition to see the artworks of several hundred talented Southern California adult and youth artists. The exhibition was presented by the city of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and the Municipal Art Gallery.
Larisa Safaryan was announced Best in Show Winner at the opening reception on Sunday, March 30. Safaryan showcased three of her artworks made of eggshells. Larisa Safaryan uses natural eggshells to create her delicate art pieces. Without question, she is an innovator in what she does. Her works reflect her joy, energy and are full of emotionality. Larisa’s works are unlike anything that exist at this time. She manages to unite simple shapes and lines to create works with strong expression, yet full of elegance, softness and harmony. The spirit of innovation and excitement is at the heart of all that Larisa Safaryan creates. Among the jurors of the exhibition were Betty Ann Brown, Ph.D., Professor of Art History, Cal State Northridge; Jan Davids, Artist, Open Call 2011 Best in Show Winner; F. Scott Hess, Artist; Sarah Russin, Executive Director, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE); John O’Brien, Artist, Curator, Curatorial Coordinator, Sturt Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens.
